2025 kicks off with the second face-to-face meeting of the ONE-BLUE project, which will be held at the University of Agriculture of Athens (Greece) on January 28-29. Our partners Hellenic Centre of Marine Research and Venthic will organize this meeting where the ONE-BLUE partners will review the actions carried out during the first year and prepare the actions to be carried out this year. On the second day of this meeting, a cross-sectorial meeting will be organised inviting local stakeholders to discuss aspects related to ocean protection. Invitations will be private for this meeting, but you can attend online through this link.
On Tuesday, January 28, the leading partners of the work packages will present the conclusions of the first year of activity and will also discuss the activities to be carried out during this year. CNR-IRSA will discuss future sampling campaigns, HCMR will explain the evolution of mesocosm studies and TU Delft, together with the leaders of work package 3, will report on the new tools and protocols to support the monitoring of emerging contaminants in the ocean. Venthic will be in charge of presenting the data collection activities, Finnova will analyze the communication and dissemination actions of the project and finally, IDAEA-CSIC will offer the partners a presentation focused on the management of the project.
On Wednesday, January 29, a cross-sectorial meeting organised by HCMR, Venthic, IDAEA-CSIC and Finnova will let local stakeholders learn about the main lines of action of the project. CNR-IRSA will present to the guests the sampling campaigns of the project, while TU Delft and INL will present the novelties in the protocol and treatments of CEC and systems for the detection of antibiotics. Next, we will have the intervention of the CONTRAST project, sister project of ONE-BLUE, which will explain the novelties of this initiative that seeks to improve the protection of marine ecosystems and biodiversity from the impacts through various methods to fight against potentially harmful chemicals in our oceans.
In addition, we will host some local stakeholders who will explain their actions related to ocean protection. Triantafyllos Kaloudis, a researcher from the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company, will explain their approach to untargeted analysis of environmental samples, linking it to the need to develop quality assurance practices that lead to laboratory accreditation for those untargeted analyses. Then, Ioannis Sitaras, director of the Hellenic Accreditation System, will explain the main activities of this entity.
Afterwards, the stakeholders will exchange views with the project partners through four round tables in which different aspects of the project will be analyzed. IDAEA-CSIC will lead the round table on antibiotic resistance in nature and its effects on humans, Finnova will lead a round table on European funding, VENTHIC will develop its round table on CEC classification systems, and HCMR will explain the project’s benefits for the environment. After analyzing the responses, attendees will visit the HCMR facilities to conclude the day. If you want to attend online to the Cross Sectorial, you can register through this link.
