The EU-funded project ONE-BLUE will host the online scientific webinar “Analysis of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) in Environmental Matrices” on Friday, 24 October 2025, from 10:00 to 12:00 CEST. The event will bring together scientists, policymakers, and representatives of EU-funded projects to discuss recent advances in the analysis, monitoring, and mitigation of emerging pollutants in aquatic ecosystems.

Connecting science, policy, and innovation
The webinar will open with a welcome address by Juan Manuel Revuelta, CEO of Finnova Foundation, who will moderate the session. The scientific introduction will be presented by Prof. Marinella Farré, Research Scientist at IDAEA-CSIC (Spain), who will provide an overview of ONE-BLUE’s objectives, methodology, and research on the detection and environmental assessment of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs).
The session will continue with short presentations from ONE-BLUE partners, highlighting field campaigns, analytical approaches, and advances in monitoring techniques for marine and coastal environments.
Synergies with other EU-funded projects
The webinar will also feature contributions from representatives of other EU-funded initiatives, including CONTRAST, iMERMAID, JOINABLE, and LABPLAS, which are addressing complementary aspects of marine pollution such as chemical assessment tools, circular economy models for aquatic waste, and innovative analytical methods for micro- and nanoplastics detection. Their participation will foster scientific exchange and highlight the synergies between European research projects working towards a cleaner, more resilient marine environment.
A joint discussion panel (Q&A) will conclude the session, featuring Steven Brooks, Senior Researcher in the Ecotoxicology and Risk Assessment Team at NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research), alongside representatives of all participating projects.
About ONE-BLUE
ONE-BLUE is a Horizon Europe project aimed at assessing the impact of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) and climate change on marine biodiversity and biota. The consortium is conducting over 800 sample collections across the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans to strengthen the understanding of pollution dynamics and inform evidence-based EU policies for marine protection.
