Barcelona, Spain – November 8, 2024 – CyRIC – Cyprus Research and Innovation Center – actively participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024, engaging in strategic discussions on sustainability and technological innovation, with a particular focus on the Blue Economy through its involvement in the ONE-BLUE project.
Day 1 – Smart City Expo Participation (06/11/2024)
On November 6, CyRIC was present at the Smart City Expo, where it took part in the activities of the Blue Economy hall. This platform enabled CyRIC to connect with relevant stakeholders, explore new technologies, and present its work under the ONE-BLUE project. The project promotes sustainable practices in the utilization of marine resources, supporting the development of healthier marine ecosystems. Engagements with solution providers and partners reinforced CyRIC’s commitment to advancing environmentally responsible innovation in the maritime sector.

Day 2 – Visit to the Port of Barcelona (07/11/2024)
On November 7, representatives from CyRIC and the ONE-BLUE project visited the Port of Barcelona, a founding member of Escola Europea, a key European center for sustainable logistics and intermodal transport education. The delegation was received by the Port’s Chief Business Officer, who provided an in-depth overview of port operations, logistics infrastructure, and terminal activities.

As part of a logistics port workshop, the Port’s Environmental Manager presented current and forthcoming environmental initiatives, including comprehensive mitigation strategies aimed at transforming the port into a carbon-neutral facility. The visit highlighted best practices in sustainable logistics and reinforced the alignment between the ONE-BLUE project’s goals and the port’s environmental roadmap.
